Back to Other Results/Historical Events 2012 Winter Warmup Invitational Chess Tournament
Crosstable
Tournament Reportby Jeff Roland Idaho State Chess Champion, Caleb Abernathy (Meridian), won first place with a perfect 4 points in the first ever Winter Warmup Invitational tournament on January 21, 2012, which was played at the home of Kevin Patterson in Meridian, Idaho. Peter Olsoy (Boise), playing in only his second chess tournament tied for 2nd-4th place with Corey Longhurst (Meridian) and Patrick Kirk (Boise), each having 3 points. Entry to this tournament was completely free, and it was also USCF rated. Thanks to an additional anonymous donation of $55, there was even a prize fund! The time control was game/45 with a 5 second time delay, and every game had a digital clock and used this time control. The Pattersons did a fantastic job hosting the event, providing snacks and lunch, and providing a wonderful atmostphere to have the chess tournament. Jeff Roland was the Tournament Director. The event was submitted online right there on the spot and rated by USCF within 2 hours of the end of the event. The event was an attempt to give chess players a chance to "warm up" for the Idaho Closed State Championship tournament coming up in February, and thus, we named it the "Winter Warmup Invitational" (the title is actually credited to Jeff Roland). The invitational tournament was limited to 16 players and we filled every slot. Everyone seemed to have a great time. Thanks to all who came and played in the event. And thanks to Kevin Patterson and his family for hosting the event. Prizes:Caleb P. Abernathy - 1st
